Xiao Xu is a graduate student in the Data Science for Public Policy program at Georgetown University, specializing in the intersection of data science and public policy. As a Research Assistant at Georgetown’s Massive Data Institute and a fellow at the Better Government Lab, he conducts large-scale analysis of SNAP Quality Control microdata, building reproducible R and Python workflows to support policy reforms on benefit accuracy. Previously, he worked with Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets, where he automated the visualization of thousands of traffic safety incidents and developed geospatial dashboards to inform state-level policy proposals. He also co-developed PandasPro, an open-source Python package adopted by analysts at the World Bank and IMF to streamline exploratory data analysis. With prior experience in both academic research and industry data analytics, Xu’s work bridges advanced data science methods with applied social and economic policy challenges.
